Club News for February

*     Hi all,

* Coming up this Wednesday afternoon is the first of a two session
Swiss Team club championship. Feb 1st and 8th.

* There are several Jr. Fund games, which support players under the
age of 25. February 2 M/NM, Tuesday afternoon Feb 7, Friday afternoon
Feb 17 and Wed evening M/NM February 15. There is a regular club
championship Wed night M/NM on the 22nd which means you earn extra
points if you play, but not awards of free plays if you win.

* The Saskatoon Sectional is coming up fast, starting Thursday night
Feb 9 and going through the weekend. Just a reminder that Saturday is a
two session pairs event if you want to play in it, but there will be
single session games available if you do not. They are still needing
volunteers to help out in the kitchen and with the coffee as well as any
goodies that can be brought. Sign up sheet and times needed are on the
cupboard by the microphone.

* We are trying to organize our club's library of bridge books. We
would appreciate it if all borrowed books would be returned in the next
week or so. We would like to do an inventory of what we have on hand.
If you have bridge books at home collecting dust, now is the time to
donate them. Maybe someone else would enjoy reading them. The rule of
thumb is if you haven't looked at it in five years, it is just wasting
space. We have purchased the latest Encyclopedia of Bridge, but this is
for reference and use in the club only and not to be taken out.

* In the laws of duplicate bridge, it is required you make the
opening lead face down and ask the OPPONENTS if it is your lead, then
you can ask partner if they have any questions. If you are misinformed
by your opponents as to whose lead it is, there will be no penalty. It
is also stated you should count your cards face down to make sure you
have 13 before looking at them. A board played with 12 cards in one
hand and 14 in the other will be thrown out, no exceptions.

* Enjoy our warm, spring like weather!
